 The Final Word game review

Novastorm -- Psygnosis

Pilot a dart-like space fighter in this space simulation-shooter for the 3DO. Rendered cinemas and full motion backgrounds are added features.

They butchered one of my favorite PC games! The control was sloppy, and movement toy like. The PC had a control flair just not met by other FMV games... It was gone on the 3DO. I was very disappointed in this game. Don't even bother - leave it on the shelf.

Aaaaahhhhhh! This sucks, it sucks!! Novastorm begins with an ultra-boring FMV sequence that, I suppose, sets up the game. When the game began I realized that your attack ship could have easily been a crosshair, or an Amiga snooze balloon because your "spacecraft," and I use that term loosely, has zero flight dynamics. There is no feel of weight or power, it just zooms around the screen like a speedy crosshair. Maybe if they canned the lame in-game FMV and used the opening FMV instead it would have been cool; I can imagine flying around the room and shooting the crappy actors in the head. Now that would be a cool FMV game!

R.I.P.
I was really siked about this game, and couldn't wait to see it. Then I saw it and couldn't wait to quit seeing it. Geeze what happend to the way cool Psygnosis graphics that I've come to know and love, even expect? Everything is great in this game until you actually get to the play screen. Yuck, the colors are all dithered out, play control on your ship is like playing a lightgun game with a sloppy joypad. Sound is so-so but blah who needs it. I'll play this game on the PC and enjoy it the way it should be thank you.

The graphics are excellent, but the play seems to pale in comparison to the PC counterpart. If you haven't played the PC version and don't know what you're missing, you may want to give this one a shot. Otherwise, steer clear.
