Psychic Detective -- Electronic Arts/Colossal Pictures

In Electronic Arts interactve 3DO title, Psychic Detective you play the role of Eric "The Psychic Flash" Fox who is on his first job as a hired mind reader. You become envolved in a complicated story of betrayal, manipulation and evil mind control. Can you solve the mystery of "Black Diamond" or will you get fried in the end.

Psychic Detective follows a departure from the old-style FMV crap with an interesting evolutionary direction. Psychic Detective is a fast-paced interactive movie that keeps playing no matter what you do, however you are given choices to different paths and about 14 endings. Whether you choose to interact or not is up to you. But your ending will suffer if you ignore the paths. Psychic Detective also features the best full-screen video seen in a 3DO game. Cool for many plays... but not forever. I'm kinda sick of ending up a vegetable every time.

"Weird" is the word that comes to mind when I play this game. Cool-weird, but weird none-the-less. This game is basically a movie that you can sit and play. The game is always moving, and whether you do or do not react in this game... the world keeps on moving. The trick is to check out enough stuff so that you can win this weird game at the end of the movie. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anyway someone could pull this stunt off, therefore this game has pretty much guaranteed replay value. You even get incentive to play again when the movie is over since the game tells you precisely which ending you received, and then poses a question usually related to something you didn't get to see during your last play (at least that's how it seemed for me)... So... you go back to play to see if you can: one, figure out what the heck the question/comment was about, and two, if you can get one of the other endings on the list. As far as gameplay goes, there isn't really any, per se, since all your control basically involves pushing a button from time to time. A pretty good game, and very good use of FMV.
