Lords of Thunder -- NEC

Originally intended as a sequel to Gate of Thunder, programmers decided to leave it to stand free as Lords of Thunder took on a life of its own. Blast through nine terrorizing levels as an awesome mech warrior in this side scrolling shooter for the Turbo Grafx Super-CD.

Ferrari Man
Lords of Thunder represents a massive improvement in graphics over Gate of Thunder. However, Lords of Thunder just didn't have that "feel". There was nothing major wrong with it, just a lot of little things. For instance, if you accidently purchase something at a store, there is no cancel key, and often times when a power-up appears on the corner of the screen there is no way to reach it. Do the graphics and sound improvements really make Lords of Thunder better than Gate of Thunder? Even I'm not sure as to that answer. Overall, a very solid shooter that should do well in increasing Duo sales.

There is no way of mistaking this game as a sequel to the hit Gate of Thunder because it isn't. The graphics were great and the beginning animations were pretty cool. Music is definitely upbeat. Game control of your character is pretty good, but I just wish there was a way to turn around and kill the enemies behind you. This game is definitely challenging and is definitely worth the bucks if you want a good shooter. Great job!

R.I.P.
In the fine tradition of the best Turbo CD shooters, this game rocks. I'd even be willing to nominate it as best shooter for 93' but we've only just started the year. The graphics are fantastic, and the music is all instrumental metal pieces that really "groove" to the game. The best thing I liked about the game was how you could choose what type of weapon system you wanted to used for each stage. I also felt the play control was excellent. Although, I could have gone for just a couple more levels. Oh well, I guess you can't have everything.

Salamander
Tasty. Lords of Thunder is another excellent shooter. The graphics really jump to life, and the soundtrack is better than listening to Z-ROCK! While I can't put Lords of Thunder above Gate of Thunder simply because something about the gameplay isn't quite as fierce, this title still ranks up there. For anyone who enjoys disposing of vile alien scum, this title is a must-have.
