Street Fighter II Special Edition -- Capcom

The hottest arcade game of all time makes its debut on the Sega Genesis in Street Fighter II - Special Edition. This 24 meg behemoth includes all the features of the arcade Turbo Championship Edition, as well as a few new ones. The "Special" modes allow players to engage in tag-team style fighting, taking players one step beyond traditional head-to-head. Do you have what it takes to be a World Warrior?

Ferrari Man
The top dog of the sports genre takes a big step into the action field with this title. The gameplay and graphics are very close to the arcade. Pick up a couple of six-button controlers and you are set for a true battle. Just make sure you leave your TV volume off. The Genesis really let me down here. The voices are unintelligible and the music extremely choppy. The sound is nothing short of irritating. But, overall, the game is still Street Fighter II, and you really can't complain.

????
Graphically this game does not compare to the arcade or any other version. The graphics were good for the system but more was expected. The voice in the game was a tremendous let down. I enjoyed it more with the sound turned off. Gameplay was hard with the standard controller and made some combos nearly impossible because you have to hit the start button to switch between kick and punch buttons. With the six-button controller it was easier to play but there seemed to be a slight pause before the move was actually executed. Overall, this game is a big disappointment.

R.I.P.
Why in the name of whatever did they change the sound for!?! Besides that the graphics were only so-so. I had hoped so much for this title. (Note, my score is based on play with a six-button controller. The idea of playing with a three button control is too pointless to even think about.)

Salamander
The rest of the game is excellent, but what did they do to the sound?! The digitized voices sound like someone who's just been gargling with a mouthful of broken glass! Other than that, I liked the game, and I particularly enjoyed the "special" modes; these modes let a player prove their real skill and endurance. Two thumbs up.
