The Final Word game review
Ascii's King's Field for the Sony PlayStation brings the world of 3-D action-adventure to life. A universe where you can climb ancient ruins, traverse oceans, duel enemies -- all in real time. Immerse yourself in a fully viewable realm of evil-ridden dungeons, villages, and castles in your quest for the Moonlight Sword.
Finally the first RPG for the PlayStation. King's Field is a great RPG and even better a long one. The graphics may be a little blocky but they have excellent texture maps on them and move very fluidly. The music is very good and the sound effects are well done. The game is a first person RPG and it controls very nicely. At first your character moves real slow but as you raise levels your character moves faster and swings his weapon faster. The ability to look up and down is a very nice touch. There is a multitude of weapons and armor. Be careful which weapons you get, because it may be too heavy and cause you to swing slowly if your level isn't high enough. The story is pretty good and keeps you interested. This RPG will no doubt take you a while to complete. Overall this is an awesome RPG for the PlayStation. Excellent job Ascii!
An RPG on the Playstation. Well kinda. More like a Doom perspective Zelda. Still it's a large game that will take some time to finish. As opposed to the average PS game which is a night's worth of entertainment. The game does feature excellent, detailed graphics. The levels are huge. Which coupled with the general lack of direction make completing your quest difficult as you often don't know what to due next. Effects are sparse but good. The gameplay is fairly intuitive to anyone who has played Doom, which is a definate plus. On the other hand the game moves at a snails pace making the extensive exploring painful and back tracking intolerable. Couple that with the fact that saves can only be accomplished in certain spots and you've probably doubled the amount of time it takes to finish the game. A good game recommended for the patient inquisitve gamer.
